In the church, Christmas is a twelve-day season called “The Nativity of Our Lord.” Christmas Eve gets things started by taking us back to Bethlehem. Tonight’s appointed Scriptures are most appropriate for this high and holy occasion. For while much of the world thinks of Christmas as cute and cliched, there is nothing trite or trivial in what has happened today. God has come to be with us in the flesh. The deepest lowliness of Mary’s baby in a manger is but the mask for the greatest glory, the glory of the Son who came to be our Savior!
